After last year success with a record of 6,775,000 viewers and 38.93% of shares, the show known as the most viewed talent show of Italian television, “Ti lascio una canzone”, started to air again in September. It is a music variety show aired on RAI1 and presented by Antonella Clerici live from the RAI auditorium in Naples. The novelty of this fourth edition is the presence of X-treme audio system. The system will be used for the 11 episodes and will amplify the 35 young, live stars coming from all over Italy and a 30 instrument orchestra masterfully conducted by Leonardo De Amicis.
The RAI theatre in Naples, designed for classical musical concerts, has a high reverberation time which may cause a sound amplification system to turn to sound intelligibility problems, unless suitable precaution measures are taken. This was an exciting challenge for Sound Corporation technical staff and, thanks to the field experience of the Engineers Maurizio Landi and Gianni Boccia, sound has been clear and well-reinforced from the very first episode with a distinctive enhancement of the mid range that is perfect for the reproduction of the typical Italian songs performed by these young gifted artists. On his return to the office, Mr. Landi said: "I had no problems with fine tuning of the system. Actually, this was a good opportunity for me to show how X-Treme technology can be adapted to any type of environment or event”.
The main audio system consists of twelve XTMISI line arrays, positioned at the sides of the stage, in a flying configuration, 6.5 m above ground. These elements are amplified by three XT2000 and processed by two XTDP26. Four XTMLAS double subwoofers have been suspended from a height of 5 meters in order to maximize the reflection of the ceiling of the auditorium and to reach the audience on the balconies. Two XTHPS21 subwoofers were installed on the ground for the ultra low frequencies and were piloted by one XT2600. Four XTMLA Mini Line Arrays were installed at 15 meters to provide sound to the central area of the auditorium whilst for the side fill, the engineers decided to hang two Mini Line Arrays of the same type at a height of 5 m. The latter are amplified by one XT2000 and processed by one XTDP26. Four XTD88 speakers amplified by one XT2000 were used for the front fill. Finally, two XTMON12 with white cabinet and piloted by one XT2000 were used to monitor the young performers.
During this talent show, the vote of the technical jury, consisting of Stefania Sandrelli and Massimiliano Pani (the son of Mina, the famous Italian singer), is summed up to the votes of the in-home audience to award the winning song that is to pass directly to the finals. During the numerous episodes, there will be special guests such as Dionne Warwick, Gigi D’Alessio, Massimo Ranieri, Lucio Dalla, Antonello Venditti, Lorenzo Crespi and many others. From behind the curtains, the young comedian - Frank Matano - will report about the life of these kids with irony and jokes.
The final result? “We received everybody’s compliments and found our way to the heart of Rai”, commented Gianni Boccia, engineer and operations manager of X-Treme branch office for Southern of Italy.
“We have been able to achieve overall better results as compared to the last edition. These were possible thanks to the correct identification of the material needed (despite a limited budget), the setup of the complete system and its final optimization to the special target application”, stated Flaviano Di Santo, an executive with RAI and technical manager of the audio division. |
